Draft Dodgers
The Vietnam war draft dodgers were people who used different tactics to avoid going into war. The government accused more than 210,000 people of dodging the draft and of those, 30,000 fled to Canada. Those who fled were given amnesty after the war was over.
There were many other ways that people used to dodge the draft. Most people were desperate to avoid the draft and took desperate measures. Some of the more drastic ways included amputating limbs and flattening feet. Many people who had been drafted would burn their draft cards right in the face of the government. If you knew you were required to register for the draft but did not, you would face five years in prison or a $50,000 fine if you were convicted.
